Family Learning at St Mary's

"We are doing a family learning course at St Mary's. The whole family is loving the course and learning is fun." (Parent, March 2006)

What is family learning?

Kingston Family Learning Service explains it this way: Our family and friends are our most powerful influences on our learning throughout our lives. The values, attitudes and culture that we learn from our families can stay with us throughout our lives. Family learning consists of a whole range of activities enabling parents, carers and children to learn together. It helps parents and carers to support their children by getting involved in their education and promotes lifelong learning. Grandparents too can be introduced to learning in this way through the younger generations of their families, making family learning totally inter-generational.
